Table Styling Tutorial
Create 100% Ethical, Circular & Unique Placemats in Minutes
Small budget, big impact for your table!
No need to know how to sew to create a stylish and sustainable table setting. With SUSTY’s recycled fabrics, you can make unique round placemats in just a few minutes. A simple, creative, and eco-friendly idea to elevate your everyday meals as well as special occasions.
Why choose SUSTY recycled fabrics?
Eco-responsible: give a second life to unused fabrics from leading design houses.
Quick & easy: just a few cuts, no sewing required.
Budget-friendly: one meter of fabric is enough for a whole table set.
Unique: each placemat is one-of-a-kind, depending on the fabric and motif chosen.
What you’ll need
Recycled fabrics from SUSTY (linen, jacquard, heavy cotton, velvet, etc.).
A round template (plate or tray).
A pair of sharp scissors.
(Optional) pinking shears for a decorative, anti-fray finish.
(Optional) light fusible interfacing to add stiffness if needed.
Step-by-step guide (10 minutes max)
1. Choose the size
A round placemat usually measures 35–40 cm in diameter.
With 1 meter of fabric, 140 cm wide, you can make around 9 to 10 placemats.
2. Trace & cut
Place your template (plate, platter, or compass), trace a circle on the back of the fabric, then cut it out carefully.
3. No-sew finishing options
Pinking shears: create a clean zig-zag edge that prevents fraying.
Raw edge: perfect with dense fabrics (linen, felt, jacquard) for a chic, minimalist look.
Fusible backing: iron on a thin interfacing circle for more hold and structure.
And that’s it your placemats are ready to use, without a single stitch!
Creative variations
Mix and match fabrics for a mismatched, trendy look.
Switch styles by season: linen and cotton for summer, velvet or jacquard for winter.
Add a colorful fusible trim around the edge for a more graphic effect.
Reversible hack: cut two different fabrics and bond them together with double-sided fusible web. You’ll have two looks in one placemat to switch your table setting in seconds.
